Our parish will offer Blessing of Throats after Mass on Saturday, February 2 and Sunday, February 3. The blessing is given by touching the throat of each person with two blessed candles joined together to form a cross. Blessing of the Throats is a sacramental of our Church, celebrated on the feast day of Saint Blaise of Sebaste.

St. Blaise was the Bishop of Sebaste in Armenia during the 4th century. According to accounts, he was a physician before becoming a bishop. His veneration spread throughout the entire Church in the Middle Ages because he  miraculously cured a little boy who nearly died because of a fishbone in his throat. From the 8th century he has been invoked on behalf of the sick, especially those with illnesses of the throat.
